On this mini three day action packed adventure we will journey through the heart of Portugal to and beyond Evora. We will photograph our beautiful model in an abandoned mansion, at a historic fort, on the streets of Evora and at rambling old farmhouses. The workshop group will also visit some classic fishing boat jetties at sundown to capture shoreline landscape shots.

During this adventure will be photographing a mixture of portraits and fashion portraits in rural abandoned locations, portraits on the streets of the Unesco heritage town of Evora and the occasional landscape. We will have a professional English speaking model with us throughout the tour. There will be three shooting days and the trip will start and end in Lisbon.

The price includes all accommodation, breakfasts, lunches and transport during the three workshop days.

Portugal workshop

These three photographs were taken by Damien in one of our fabulous abandoned shoot locations in the heart of Portugal. These locations are rich in texture and come alive when bathed in beautiful light. We won’t be reliant on sunlight because Damien will show the group how to make fabulous light using a Godox AD200 whatever the weather.

Damien is no stranger to shooting beauty among the ruins. It’s a genre that has fascinated him for more than ten years. The Iberian peninsular is home to many perfectly ruined shoot locations. The genres to be captured on this adventure will include couture fashion, minimalist fashion, implied nude and casual portraits.

  • A digital camera, APSC, full frame or medium format
  • A few lenses covering the equivalent of 20mm to 150mm on full frame
  • A monopod or a tripod for the darker locations and landscapes
  • A 10 stop ND filter might be useful at the fishing boat jetties

All lighting equipment for the model shoots will be provided by Damien and shared among the group. Damien will provide dedicated flash triggers for each of the camera systems.

Our first night will be spent in a medieval castle. This four star historical Castelo hotel sits comfortably upon a hilltop, with views of the tranquil waters of the nearby Sado River.
The remaining two nights of our trip will be spent at a fabulous five star boutique palace hotel overlooked by the famous aqueduct of Évora.

We have booked sumptuous hotels that show Portugal at its best. Our hotels will provide a welcome contrast to the dusty ruins we will be shooting in by day.

Considered by many to be one of the world’s most influential contemporary photographers, Damien is best known for creating portraits that make women look fabulous. Having had a glittering career at the BBC as a cameraman and lighting director spanning 14 years he left in 1998 to become a full time photographer.

For the past 20 years Lovegrove has travelled the world as a commercial, wedding and portrait photographer and now loves to share his knowledge and experience with passionate photographers. His sense of fun and his radiant energy make him an ideal leader of adventures and workshop tutor.  In 2013 Damien became an official Fujifilm X Photographer and remains one of the chosen few Fujifilm brand ambassadors to this day.

Should you cancel this workshop for any reason, no refund will be available unless your place is resold. If you would like to cancel your place on this event please contact us by phone or email as soon as possible.

As our costs for each training event remain the same regardless of how many delegates attend, like any pre-booked tickets for the theatre, concert, flights etc, we are unable to give a full refund in the event of non-attendance, regardless of the circumstances.

Please take a look here for our full terms and conditions.

The exception to this is if we have prior notice and are able to put a cancellation place back online AND your place is resold.  In this event we will of course make a full refund or credit to you. We also reserve the right to cancel any workshop if there is insufficient demand, especially if it means that our costs would be higher than our income. Please therefore do not leave it until the last few weeks if you are interested in a particular date, as you may find that it has been removed! Please note that we cannot be liable for any other costs incurred by yourself, so please check with us before booking any non-refundable accommodation or transport.
