Fashion Fusion is the combination of fashion photography and portraiture. On this three day action-packed adventure we will journey through the heart of Portugal to and beyond Evora. We will photograph our beautiful model in an abandoned mansion, at an historic fort, on the streets of Evora and at rambling old farmhouses.

During this adventure we will be photographing fashion portraits in rural abandoned locations, on the streets of the Unesco heritage town of Evora and the occasional figure in the landscape. We will work the styling up to implied nude so that all of our pictures are Facebook and Instagram friendly. We will have a professional English speaking model with us throughout the tour.

I will be showing how to maximise the natural light but we will also supplement that with flash from a Godox AD600 unit. Don’t worry, I will go through all the camera settings with you as needed. I have HSS triggers for Sony, Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, Hasselblad, Pentax, Olympus, and Panasonic cameras so we should be covered.

There will be three shooting days and the trip will start and end at the Avis car hire desk in Lisbon Airport. Our accommodation is in fabulous hotels so we can relax in comfort at the end of the day.

The workshop price includes all accommodation, breakfasts, lunches, transport, tuition and model fees throughout the three workshop days.

The locations we will be shooting in are rich in texture and come alive when bathed in beautiful light. We won’t be reliant on sunlight though because I will show you how to make fabulous light using a Godox AD600 flash unit whatever the weather.

I popped out to Portugal earlier this year to check out some locations that looked too good to be true. I picked up a hire car and zig-zagged across the country touching the Spanish border at times. Wow! is all I can say. I have never been this excited about a group of locations.
As with all these unpredictable things, flexibility is needed and I’ve got a few backup shoot locations ready if we encounter problems. This is why I call this kind of trip an adventure because sometimes the unexpected can happen.

The warm earth tones of the ruins in Iberian countries are wonderful to shoot. I add the magic with a splash of flash that elevates fashion portraits to another dimension.

Although I’ve tried to list here all the information you will need to know about this Fashion Fusion event in Portugal, I’m sure you will still have the odd question for me, like: “What lenses shall I bring?” or “Do I need a tripod?” Click on the button below and either Laura or Blaise will arrange a mutual time for me to call or Skype with you.

I took these shots of our locations in Portugal with my iPhone on my recce earlier this year to show their magestic isolation, diversity and richness.

We will strive to capture beauty with balanced composition, rich tonality, colour, and harmony. These are all aspects of my photography that I will share with you on this mini adventure.

• Three nights hotel accommodation with breakfasts
• Lunch & refreshments on workshop days
• The services of a professional model with suitable styling items
• Damien Lovegrove’s guidance, help and wisdom
• Vehicle hire and petrol

We will be travelling in two SUV style vehicles with four people per vehicle. (As a group we will share the driving between locations. Please let us know if you do not feel comfortable / not able to drive)

• Flights to and from Lisbon
• Evening meals
• Alcoholic drinks
• Travel insurance

We strongly recommend that you take the opportunity to extend your trip in Portugal to take in some of the sights of Lisbon, Oporto and the Algarve.

I am no stranger to shooting beauty among the ruins. It’s a genre that has fascinated me for more than ten years. The Iberian peninsular is home to many perfectly ruined shoot locations. The genres to be captured on this adventure will include couture fashion, minimalist fashion, implied nude and casual portraits.

  • A digital camera, APS-C, full frame or medium format with full manual control
  • A few lenses covering the equivalent of 20mm to 150mm on full frame
  • A monopod or a tripod for the darker locations and landscapes will be ideal
  • A 10 stop ND filter might be useful at the fishing boat jetties

All lighting equipment for the model shoots will be provided by me and shared among the group. I will provide dedicated flash triggers for your camera system.
Nearer the time we will create a private Facebook group so that you can get to know each other, ask questions about kit, clothing and share Instagram profiles if you like.

Our first night will be spent in a medieval castle. This four-star historical Castelo hotel sits comfortably upon a hilltop, with views of the tranquil waters of the nearby Sado River.
The remaining two nights of our trip will be spent at a fabulous five-star boutique palace hotel overlooked by the famous aqueduct of Évora.

We have booked sumptuous hotels that show Portugal at its best. Our hotels will provide a welcome contrast to the dusty ruins we will be shooting in by day.

Our model will be chosen by my team in August. We react to requests from guests. Sometimes guests want to work with models they have not shot with before. I am regularly testing new models to find ones with the right character and look for each event. If you would love to shoot with a particular model on this trip we will certainly consider that request. After all, your experience is everything on a Lovegrove adventure.

I devised this Fashion Fusion workshop in Portugal because I think you will love it. I have an honest approach to sharing my knowledge and skills gleaned over 35 years. Be prepared to soak up invaluable tips and information because these skills will give you the confidence to take your photography to the next level.

I am kind, sharing and patient. I take care to communicate in a way that reaches every level. I won’t leave you struggling if you are lost in camera menus and I won’t ignore you if you are quietly getting great photographs. What I’ll do is to show you how to build rapport and communicate with our model to make structured poses look quite relaxed and natural. Nothing is left to chance. Everything has a purpose and I’ll share with you how I style each shot. I have an understanding of light that I’m well known for and I’ll teach you how I see the light. Once you know what to look for everything becomes easier. If we are using the flash we will be recreating a striking natural light look. This attention to detail will ensure you capture portfolio grade images from day one and feel empowered to capture fabulous photographs on your own after the workshop too.

My workshops are not just about learning, they are fun, creative adventures. I am supported by a great team back at the studio who manage the event planning and preparation. That leaves me to concentrate on delivering your learning experience.  You will leave this workshop a more confident photographer with images to be proud of and memories to last a lifetime.

I love to set up a variety of shots at each location as there are always many angles to shoot. It is sometimes liberating to use a long lens to pick off close-ups.

Should you cancel this tour for any reason, no refund will be available unless your place is resold. If you would like to cancel your place on this event please contact us by phone or email as soon as possible.

As our costs for each training event remain the same regardless of how many clients attend, like any pre-booked tickets for the theatre, concert, flights, etc, we are unable to give a full refund in the event of non-attendance, regardless of the circumstances. The exception to this is if we have prior notice and are able to put a cancellation place back online AND your place is resold. In this event, we will, of course, make a full refund or credit to you.

We also reserve the right to cancel any workshop if there is insufficient demand, especially if it means that our costs would be higher than our income. Please, therefore, do not leave it until the last few weeks if you are interested in a particular date, as you may find that it has been removed! Please note that we cannot be liable for any other costs incurred by yourself, so please check with us before booking any non-refundable accommodation or transport.
